Anyone else see the fire last night? Was driving home on Lake street, and it was really terrible to see the flames spread through the building. Kinda sad, because I can remember going into it when it was a hotel, and it had a certain antiquated elegance. Plus, there's a really good pub on the bottom floor, and who knows what will happen to it?

Ah, sleep. How I miss thee. The good thing is this: the hardest part of my week is done. I have the week off from orchestra tomorrow, and I get to go to training for 4 hours out of my shift, and then Friday I can do... nothing. Which actually sounds pretty good right now. Nothing with sleep. Lots and lots of sleep.

Classes going well. Going fast, too. Just had the last midterm for this semester. Italian has actually become the easier my two language classes. Not that I'm fluent by any means, but I can stammer my way through a conversation. Russian is getting there. I'm getting better at speaking it, but dammned if I can't read or write it worth a shit. It'd be easier if there weren't any false visual cognate letters.

Mom's still on her remodeling spree, so this weekend I fear I shall have to spend at least one day helping her paint the master bedroom. And it's my parents' anniversary, only Dad leaves tomorrow for a week-long hunting trip in Colorado, so he's kind of in trouble over that. I don't really see why, since all they'd be doing if he were home would be...nothing, but then Mom's never been entirely rational.

Got my paperwork rolling on trying to rollover some of my uncle's finanical assets. Financialese makes my brain hurts. It would be so much easier just to take the money and bury it in a hole in teh backyard. God only knows how fucked up my tax return will be this year.

And now that traffic's died down, I am off.

Yeah, my sister told me 6 people died in that fire--and that it was arson--some lady set a fire in front of somebody's door.

Yeah, Julie and I saw it from Wells as we were driving home from the Parklane theater... we thought that it was more fireworks, until we got to an angle where we were able to see the actual flames from a building considerably off the main strip of casinos. I didn't know for sure that it was an actual fire and not some sort of attraction for a party or something until I read an article about it this morning.

Saw the smoke on my way in. Dwayne called the store to let us know it was the Mizpah after he got off and was driving home.
