Well, not so special after all. Nothing new, enjoying the novelty of not being at work, though I did break down today and go in to have lunch with the mother and have something bound. Have spent this week cleaning a little, and yesterday I finally unpacked the last 12 boxes of books that have been piled in the dining room. I still have 6 more boxes on random stuff, but at least my bookcases aren't going to blow away in the wind. Along with the unpacking came some actual, honest-to-god organizing, and now at least some of my stuff is neatly arranged. One entire shelf of my largest bookcase is all sheet music and sheet music books, and the sad thing is that there's another shelf's worth still at Mom's. I have discovered a liking for the small containers and baskets that I used to despise. They're great, especially given my lack of closet space.

Hmm, what else? Saw King Kong with Jen last Sunday. It was entertaining, if a little dragging. Could have used a little more ruthless editing, but not bad for a monster movie. I'm rather amazed it kept a PG13 rating given the gore and violence involved. Liked the effects, and the acting was decent.

Saw Brokeback Mountain on Tuesday with Rue. It was predictably sad, though the plot really wasn't that original, only the gender issues. The acting was teriffic, though. Lots of subtext that I probably missed. Unusually subtle for an american film, though that's probably Ang Lee's doing. I'm tempted to read the short story now to see what he started with. I also threw the forst season of Gargoyles in while I was doing laundry. Ahh, for the days when cartoons had substance and plots...

Anyway, off to run some errands and then try to make my brain absorb Italian. I have a feeling the first week or two of class will be mortifying.

Hi! Sorry I didn't call you back last night...mom had a slight medical emergency and in the midst of everything, I misplaced my phone. But it's back now.

I agree about Kong. I loved the original, despite the horrific campiness...and I liked how this one stayed true to the feel of the it. But yeah...some of it was really, really too long and outlandish. Especially the stampede...ripped me right out of the story.

When does Italian start again? What's your schedule like?

Eh, no biggie. I was more bored than anything else. So, is your Mom okay? I hope so.

Lessee, I don't think school starts back up until after MLK weekend. I'm taking a lot of classes, but one of the major ones is an online course, so that's one less trip to make.

Anyway, call me when you get a chance. I'm sorry I missed lunch today, I was on the completely opposite side of town when Rue called.

No problem.

I'm still frantically finishing applications. Tomorrow will be the last of it, though...at least until I have to start worrying about applying for financial aid...which is also soon, since the deadline to apply for assistantships at one school is Feb. 1. Blar!

Anyway...what're you doing Sunday? I was thinking about taking a walk around Rancho if the weather is halfway decent, and if not, maybe raiding a bookstore.
