Nicely done. However, I think that it could have been framed a bit better. I know from your post in canoncameras that you wanted the emphasis to be on the duck and his reflection. It's generally better to not have the subject of your phot smack in the middle of the frame. Have you heard of the "rule of thirds"?

I took some notes from some photography classes that I took a few years ago and compiled them into a webpage here: http://www.frenzy.com/~mattg/photography/

Go to that page and scroll down to the section labeled "Composition Guidelines" and read it. These are just suggestions, of course.

It's my opinion that your photo would have more impact if you were to pan to the right just a bit so that the duck's head is about 1/3 of the frame away from the left edge. Yes, you'd have more of that pesky rock in the shot, but the viewer's eye would be drawn to the duck.

Hope this is helpful.

i agree with the other coment, the framing could be a bit better. it feels unbalanced. i am also a fan of the rule of thirds. but i think that panning to the left might be better. and crop out some of the bottom of the picture. i was taught in a class once that when your subject is looking in a direction, or walking somewhere, you should leave some space on that side of the frame to show where they are looking/walking.

Oooh... I hadn't heard that before. Makes sense, though. I'll have to remember that.

I like the color quite a bit, and agree with the framing ideas. Looking for natural frames is always a thought I have when I shoot nature stuff.

However, it freaks me out that in the reflection, it looks like the bird has a hole through the middle of its head. Or is it just me? Eek!

That is one creepy reflection, man. Makes it look like a wooden decoy with a giant hole where the eye should be.

I like the reflection more than the duck. ;)
